

Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Handley Baptist Church, 6801 Church St., Fort Worth 76112. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jack was born Dec. 23, 1922, in Del Rio to Sam and Minnie Belle Petty. He graduated from Del Rio High School. After attending Texas A&M for one semester, he joined the Air Force to serve in World War II. Stationed in Italy, he repaired planes and assembled gliders for the insertion of Allied troops behind enemy lines for the D-Day Invasion. After the war he married Dorothy Blake on Feb. 16, 1946, in Del Rio. Jack attended Sul Ross for a year before enrolling at The University of Oklahoma graduating with a B.A. in geology in 1949.
Moving to Fort Worth, Jack spent his career as an engineer for General Dynamics and later for LTV until retirement. During his career at LTV, Jack served as the cost estimator for the B-2 spirit stealth bomber project. He has been a member of Handley Baptist Church since 1949 serving as a deacon and as both youth and adult Sunday school teacher. He served as the department director for senior adults until just a few months ago. Other areas of service at Handley Baptist included being RA and Triple L Leader's. He had a deep devotion and love for his church and was in constant support of all their activities.
As a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he spent endless hours with his children and grandsons, setting a true example of a perfect husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed playing golf and loved to fish.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; three brothers-in-law; three nephews; and his daughter, Debbie, in 2002.
Survivors: His wife, Dorothy, of 66 years and 8 1/2 months; son, Randall Petty of Arlington; grandsons, William Petty of Rogers, Ark., Mike and James Petty of Arlington; daughter, Donna Crawford and grandsons, Travis and Matthew Crawford, of Fort Worth; sister, Shirley Caron of Del Rio; brother, Albert Petty of San Antonio; four nephews; and three nieces.
