At his rotation date of 1946, from Europe he chose employment with the European Exchange System (PX) and became a longtime employee of the Exchange system in many positions.
His career in Europe was in retail sales, distribution and ordering needed items for stores in Austria and Germany. During these 14 years in Europe, Jim took merchandising accounting and various international correspondence school courses in advancing his career.
His next tour from November 1959 to February 1965 was in the New York headquarters of the Exchange where he completed his studies at New York University while working.
His next move brought him to the Pacific Exchange from 1965 to mid-1968 covering all countries in Asia, primarily Vietnam in a merchandising capacity. From mid-1968 to December 1969 he became chief civil executive of Vietnam Regional Exchange during the war.
On completion he became general manager at Fort Belvoir and the Military District of Washington, which included the White House and Pentagon (1969-1970). From 1971 to 1973 he was the North Zone manager for the Alamo region.
He retired in June 1973 after 26 years of civilian service with his wife, Ton Nu Mai, in Fort Worth. His wife, Mai, was his closest friend and he loved her dearly.
He'll be remembered by many Vietnamese refugees as "Uncle Jim" and advisor for many real life projects.
