James Charles Scibek

James C. Scibek, affectionately known as "Papa Jim," was born to John Francis Scibek and Dorothy Shires Scibek on December 30, 1950, in Pottsboro, Texas. Jim went to be with his Savior and Lord on July 16, 2026.

Throughout his life, Jim exemplified the values of hard work, devotion, and unconditional love. He will be remembered most for the deep love he had for his family and the lasting impact he made on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim proudly served his country in the Army National Guard of Texas from 1969 to 1976. Following his military service, he dedicated 48 years to the Union Pacific Railroad from 1970 and retiring in 2018, where he built a distinguished career as a Locomotive Engineer. He loved sharing stories with his family about his years on the railroad and the many adventures he experienced along the way. His strong work ethic, integrity, and perseverance earned the respect of those who worked beside him.

While Jim took great pride in his career, his greatest joy came from being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Papa Jim had a big heart for family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 37 years, Tanya Scibek. He is survived by 8 adult children – Kristy Marsh, Tishauna Moellering, Farrah Neal, Jeremiah Scibek, Jedediah Scibek, Braedon Scibek, Cori Scibek and Max Sargen along with 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also remembered by his siblings, Mary Scibek, Sue Scibek, Richard Scibek and Steve Scibek and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his brother John Mark Scibek, his stepdaughter Brandi Adams and granddaughter Brittney Scibek. Papa Jim welcomed many into his home and was known for never turning anyone away. Nothing brought him greater happiness than watching his family grow and spending time with those he loved.

After retiring, Jim embraced every opportunity to be present in the lives of his grandchildren. Whether cheering from the stands at football games, applauding at dance recitals, or attending countless other school and sporting events, Papa Jim was always there with a smile, hearty laugh, and a big hug. Many memories were made and will be cherished.

When Papa Jim wasn’t spending time with his family, he enjoyed working out in the yard or relaxing with a good western movie, especially if it starred his favorite actor, John Wayne. Jim collected a plethora of John Wayne memorabilia of the years.

Those who knew Jim will remember his witty humor, generous spirit, steadfast love for his family, and deep faith in Christ. He found fulfillment not in material things but in the moments spent together—celebrating milestones, creating traditions, and simply enjoying one another's company. His legacy is one of love, loyalty, and generosity.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Papa Jim's legacy will be carried forward through the family he loved so completely, and his memory will remain a source of comfort, strength, and inspiration for generations to come.
