

Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday, April 18, at Laurel Land Chapel of the Chimes, 7100 Crowley Road.
Jan was born in McAlester, Okla., on July 9, 1821, to William and Alma Cheatham. She attended high school and college in Oklahoma. She married Arthur B. Powell on July 27, 1945, in Tulsa. Jan had one child, Marc Kendall Powell, in 1948 while Art was a GI Bill student at Texas A&M and she worked in administration at the college.
Jan enjoyed her home and expressed herself by decorating their home in Fort Worth, painting, reading and gardening. She was a talented painter and a creative individual who loved her home and husband. She enjoyed letter writing and made friends through her letters. She never met anyone who she could not talk to. She always took time to listen to her friends and offer them comfort and encouragement if they were sick or having life problems. She was a great encourager and always had a funny joke or expression to share. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ from childhood.
Survivors: Her husband, Art; son, Marc and his wife, Cindy, who live in Weatherford.
