Jeanne Marcel Bauer

Jeanne Marcel Bauer, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, nurse, woman of faith, and devoted servant to others, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the age of 102. Jeanne was born on December 15, 1923, in South Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, a proud fifth-generation Kentuckian. When she was young, she and her mother moved to Detroit, Michigan, where Jeanne grew up and graduated from Cooley High School in January 1941.

At a time when the country faced a severe shortage of nurses because of World War II, Jeanne answered the call to serve. She finished high school early and pursued her nursing education at the Henry Ford School of Nursing and Hygiene. She graduated from nursing school in September 1945. Her skill and compassion were evident from the beginning. During the war she was a charge nurse at just 19 years of age; an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. After completing her nursing education, Jeanne returned to Kentucky and married Robert Bauer on October 3, 1945. While Robert pursued his degree in engineering, Jeanne worked at the Salvation Army Hospital in the newborn nursery, caring for countless babies over the next five years.

When Robert completed his studies, they moved to San Diego, California, where they lived for many years. Jeanne continued her commitment to caring for others, organizing Well Child Clinics and volunteering throughout the community. She always found ways to put her talents, compassion, and energy to good use.

In 1964, Jeanne and Robert moved to Fort Worth, Texas. A few years later, in 1969, they began attending Edge Park United Methodist Church and officially became members in 1972. Jeanne remained deeply involved in the church for more than five decades. She served in United Methodist Women in Faith and held leadership roles as president of both the Altar Guild and the Acolytes. She also sang in the choir; a passion she brought from her school days into her church home at Edge Park and well into her 90’s. Her faith was reflected not only in her church service, but in the way she lived her life — with generosity, compassion, and a willingness to care for others. After her children, Janice, Linda, and Robert Jr., grew older, Jeanne returned to nursing,

this time as an elementary school nurse. She served as the nurse at Bishop Elementary School in Fort Worth from 1972 until 1985, caring for thousands of children with the same dedication that had defined her nursing career from its earliest days.

Jeanne had another great passion throughout her long life: travel. She took more than 30 cruises and visited nearly 90 countries, traveling to all seven continents. She embraced the opportunity to see the world, experience natural wonders, and enjoy the adventure that each journey brought. Her love of travel reflected the same curiosity and enthusiasm for life that characterized who she was.

But as much as Jeanne loved seeing the world, her greatest joy was her family. She was the proud mother of Janice, Linda, and Robert Jr.; grandmother of eight; great-grandmother of twelve; and great-great-grandmother of one. She especially loved bringing her family together. For as long as she was able, Jeanne hosted big family holidays at her home, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those gatherings were rarely quiet or orderly, and Jeanne wouldn’t have wanted them any other way. The house would fill with family, food, conversation, laughter, and the joyful chaos that comes when generations gather under one roof. Jeanne would end the day wearing the same smile that she had at the start of it. Seeing her family together was one of the things that made her happiest.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, who passed away on November 25, 2005. Together they shared 60 years of marriage and built a family and a life that remained central to Jeanne until the end of her days. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Alane Bauer, who passed away on July 16, 2022. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Diane Bauer Caver (and husband, Fred), her son, Robert Louis Bauer, Jr. (and wife, Patricia), her grandchildren, Thomas Frederick Caver, III. (and wife, Amber), Russell Louis Caver (and wife, Bonnie), Kristine Nute Perry, Karen Nute Watson (and husband, Bob), Kevin Bradley Nute, Rachel Leigh Bauer,

Robert Louis Bauer, III (and wife, Stephanie), Matthew Allen Bauer (and wife, Melissa), great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Alane Nute-Stallings, Weylin Millar Kleinman, Alyssa Leigh Caver, Landry Russell Caver, Casey Jean Bauer, Hogan Louis Caver, Andrew Joseph Caver, Kaylee Christine Bauer, Kaitlynn Marie Bauer, Abigail Grace Bauer, Rebekah Hope Bauer, and great-great-grandchild, River Sol Lightfoot-Kleinman.

Jeanne’s 102 years were filled with faith, service, family, adventure, and love. She answered her country’s call during World War II, devoted her career to caring for others, served her church and community, and traveled the world. But, above all, she loved her family deeply and joyfully. Her legacy lives on in the many people she cared for, the children she helped, the church family she served, the places she saw, and, most importantly, the generations of family who were blessed to know her. Jeanne’s warm spirit, infectious laughter, steady presence, and generous heart will be

deeply missed. But those who loved her will remember her not simply for the remarkable life she lived, but for the joy she found in having all of us together — especially around a table, surrounded by family, with a house full of noise and laughter.

A memorial service celebrating Jeanne’s life will be held at Edge Park United Methodist
