Jennie Lue Perkins (affectionately known as Betty Sims) was born on February 23, 1936, in the
quiet countryside of Panola County, Texas, to the loving embrace of her parents, Edmund Sims
Jr. and Lottie Bell Robinson Sims. From a young age, Jennie displayed a deep sense of
responsibility and devotion to her family, putting her education on hold after the fourth grade to
care for her younger sibling when duty called.
Despite the challenges she faced, Jennie never let go of her dreams. With a natural talent and
passion for hairstyling, she pursued her love for beauty by attending cosmetology school. There
she honed her craft and found joy in helping others feel their best.
A woman of unwavering faith, Jennie attended Calvary Cathedral Church for many years. There
she found spiritual fulfillment and a strong sense of community. Her generosity knew no
bounds—she was a true philanthropist, selflessly giving to numerous non-profit organizations,
always eager to uplift those in need.
When she wasn’t deep in scripture, finding solace and wisdom in her beloved Bible, she could
often be found in her garden, tending to vibrant flowers and lush greenery with the same care
and dedication she showed to those around her. Jennie’s life was a testament to love, faith, and
generosity, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Jennie Perkins was married to Samuel Perkins, and they had two daughters, and she is survived by her two daughters, Martha Hamilton and Priscilla Ruffin; and her sister Zella Mae Pounds (Lonnie).
