Jerry Ronald Thompson

He was born in Tyler, Texas on January 27th 1940 to parents Clota Hamman and Robert Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Virginia Gayle Thompson. Both enjoyed their retirement years travelling and discovering new places. From Alaskan cruises to Caribbean cruises or visiting the Florida panhandle, they truly enjoyed their time together.

Jerry graduated from Stephen F. Austin University while enjoying his time as an athlete and as a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Each year he would travel to a working ranch in Texas and meet up with his fraternity brothers and enjoy great food and fellowship.

He retired from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development after serving 32 years.

Jerry was a great cook! Over the years, when family and friends would visit, Jerry always delivered. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, his meals never disappointed. His specialty was his barbecue however and there was always plenty to go around. Thankfully, he passed those skills down to his sons so that the tradition will carry on.

He was a proud Texan and will be greatly missed by all of his family members, friends, and fraternity brothers.

He is survived by his two sons, Todd D. Thompson and Randall P. Thompson, and his brother, Robert Thompson, along with nephews Doug and Steve, and nieces Tracy and Terry.
