

Jewelean Anderson Chess a Godly mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and great great aunt, passed away from this life on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the age of 94. Born in Jumbo Community, Long Branch, Texas, Panola County, Jewelean was the seventh child of eight born to Ben Anderson and Moderica Warren Anderson, all of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Byfield High School, Long Branch, shortly after she moved to the big city, Fort Worth, to live with her older sister, Almeter. There she met and in 1950 married Otis Chess, whom was serving in the U.S. Army, after moving to several Army Bases, they made their home in Fort Worth, where they were blessed with two daughters, Pamela Denise and Joan Loraine (deceased). Jewelean confessed her faith in Christ at an early age at New Zion Baptist Church in Long Branch. In Fort Worth, she diligently serve at Rising Star Baptist Church, Pastor Smith Cary. She later became a member of New Rising Star Baptist Church, Former Pastor Isadore Edwards, and currently Pastor, Marcus McDonald. She faithfully served in the Sanctuary Choir, Women Ministries, attended regularly Church School, and worshipped in the middle section fourth row, each Sunday in the church she dearly loved for so many years, until her health did not permit. She supported her husband until his passing in 1987, in striving to make a better life for her family which was evident by the steady increase of various employment opportunities. For example, Monnings, JC Penney, Edison's Continental Bank and other. Finally, Ling-Temco Vaught where she retired as a Computer Processor. All during that time she was growing in knowledge and skills by attending school at night. She received her Certificate in Cosmetology in 1958, completed a 60 hour course in IBM Key Punch at Fort Worth Public School Adult Education Division in 1969, completed 15 hours college credit in Data Processing at Tarrant County Junior College, completed course in Time Sharing Computing 1 in 1975 and Basic Blueprint Reading in 1981 at Mountain View College, in Dallas and in 1982 completed 24 hours in Wang Word Processing and Cyber Intercom System.
Jewelean was a strong, determined, yet loving lady who embodied elegance, confidence, and timeless style. She loved her family unconditionally and had the gift of jab. She just loved gathering with friends and family down home at Mount Zion every fourth weekend in August for church and dinner on the ground. She wouldn't miss the Anderson Family Reunion at Greg's Place in Marshall, Texas. So much family in one place brought her so much joy. She also made friends in all phases of her life. She was an avid international traveler. After her first cruise there was no stopping her. She belonged to the Glencrest Civic League and loved when it was time to host dinner at her house, which was usually spaghetti, salad, cornbread and pound cake. She was a very good cook (sweet potato pie couldn't be beat). Also she loved to garden with absolutely beautiful flowers blooming every spring.
Jewelean will be loved and remembered always by her daughter Pamela Chess Ransom; grandsons, Tollie Vail Giddings (Donna) Elijah Ransom and Benjamin Chess; great grandsons, Ryan Giddings, Kahlin Giddings, Jace Giddings, Jamar Ransom and Camriyan Chess; granddaughter, Taylor Giddings, all her nieces, nephews and friends.
