

Joe Nathan Steward was born on June 21, 1939, in New Boston, Texas, to Nathan Steward and Artlevia Murphy.
He attended James Guinn and I.M. Terrell Schools and grew up on the south side of Fort Worth, Texas.
After leaving high school in 1957, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy.
Following his naval service, Joe settled in Los Angeles, California, where he began employment with General Motors.
In 1964, he transferred to Texas.
Joe later enjoyed a distinguished 37-year career as a Railroad Engineer with Union Pacific Railroad.
Joe and his son Tony shared a special bond, often talking several times a day, especially during baseball season. Both were passionate Texas Rangers fans and enjoyed discussing every aspect of the game.

Grandfather Judge Murphy, father Nathan Steward, Mother Artie Hood Jones, brother Paul Hood, wife Leona Steward, sons Cedric and Joe Earl, granddaughter Denise, and daughter Vida Blackwell.
THOSE LEFT TO CHERISH HIS MEMORY
Joe leaves to celebrate his 86 years of life: his children, Mark Steward, Wayne Steward, Debora Williams, Tony Howard (Donna), and James Smith (Nakita); 16 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
His friend, Sandra Peay, his cherished childhood friends Vera Harris and Maurice Barksdale; and his beloved Class of 1957.
Joe's life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, friendship, and unconditional love for family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
Joe departed this life on June 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, friendship, and devotion to family.
