He was a great father whose No.1 priority was always his kids, whether it was scholastic events or sports where he coached his kids. He was a musician who taught himself to play and played by ear. He attended Texas Tech where he studied horticulture. His studies and artistic abilities lent themselves well to Steve becoming a third-generation nurseryman with Hilscher Nursery, which started in 1925. He installed much of the beautiful landscaping that you see around Fort Worth today. He lived to work with his hands and loved to work on his projects in his spare time.
Survivors: He is survived by his sons, Josh and Matt Hilscher; and his father, L.J. Hilscher.
