welcomed with pride and excitement the arrival of their first-born child, Little Miss Joyce
Ann Washington. The Washington family home consisted of five siblings: Edwin
Washington, Gladys Washington, Janice Washington, all of Fort Worth, Texas Ruby
Houston (deceased) and Jean Anderson (deceased).
At a very young age, Joyce confessed her hope in Jesus Christ. With her contentment,
she was baptized at Como First Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas by the late Rev. H. D.
Steptoe.
Joyce attended Como Elementary School, Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Como
Jr/Sr High School in 1958. She was very active in school and during her senior year she
was crowned Miss Como. Not only was she outstanding and popular, but she also
marched to the sound of Como’s band as one of Como’s leading majorettes.
After high school she became employed with Texas Instruments, Richardson Texas
where she retired after 35 years and later was employed by the Fort Worth Independent
School District for several years.
Joyce loved the Lord and knew that she wanted to heighten her spiritual growth. During
these times, she attended Pilgrim Valley Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev.
W.G. Daniels. She also extended her membership and serve faithfully at Gethsemane
Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Gregory Spencer. When Dr.
Spencer answered God’s direction to form The Church At Philadelphia, Joyce moved
her membership and served until her health failed.
She loved to travel, solve crossword puzzles, spending time with her family, and loved
shopping with other people’s money! She had such a big heart and extended to anyone
in need. She could be counted on to serve her fellowman.
In 1960, God joined together Joyce and Clinton Holmes Jr. with five beautiful daughters
being born to this union.
Those left to cherish her memory with endearing love are daughters: Sharon
Washington, Catherine Holmes, Karen Holmes, Kimberly Howard (Christopher) and
Tamberlyn Holmes, all of Fort Worth, Texas.
Because of her outpouring love she raised her two grandchildren Cawren Washington,
and Ebony Mayberry as her very own. Her love extended to nine other grandchildren:
Johnnie Washington, DeAmber Washington, Patrick Holmes, Brianna Holmes, Khristyn
Howard, Ronika Holmes, Ronnie Joshua Jr., Bertha Onugha, and Genika Reed. 15
great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren; and we must remember her special
sons Jerry Don Hall, and Thaddeus Faulkner as well as a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and a host of loving friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.gwspencerdirs.net for the Holmes family.
