Our beloved sister in Christ, Joycelyn Brenda Spencer, affectionately called Brenda, was born in Portland, Oregon on Sunday, August 6, 1950, to Nolan L. Mack and Opal Clark Mack. Brenda was the fifth of nine children. She departed this realm on December 29, 2024.
Brenda moved to Waco, TX at a young age where she attended grade school and graduated from A. J. Moore High School in 1968. She was baptized at Greater Mount Olive MBC in Waco, and at the time of her transitioning, she was a devoted member of Destiny Church (FTW) where she and Cleveland served as Greeters and ushers.
Brenda later attended University Of North Texas where she obtained a Bachelor's' degree in Elementary Education. She became a prominent teacher in the Ft. Worth area and was known for her knowledge and compassion. She taught at several Montessori schools in the Ft. Worth area and worked with MHMR. Brenda ended her education career at Super Kids Academy, doing what she absolutely loved doing.
Brenda was loved by many. She embraced individuals in need and strove to ensure their needs were met.
She possessed a stern, yet supportive spirit and many looked to her for genuine direction and guidance. Brenda married the love of her life, Cleveland Spencer in 1988 and they lived in marital bliss. When Cleveland’s health began to decline, Brenda focused her time and efforts to caring for his every need. They were inseparable and she loved her “Sweetie”.
Brenda was preceded in death by her mother Opal, her father Nolan, her sister Betty Mack Coppage, and her brothers, Charles Mack, Dwight Mack, and Nolan Mack, Jr.
Brenda is survived by her cherished husband Cleveland; step-daughter, Patricia James (Charles); adopted daughter, Cristy Prince-Nichols; her three sisters Carolyn Mayes, Janice Mack, Diane O’Neal (Gregory), and her brother Ferrell Mack (Celest); adopted granddaughter Kinley Bess-Cole and a host of relatives, friends and co-workers.
A special heartfelt Thank You to Trenton Renfro, Jayletha Pounds Renfro and devoted cousin Sherry Long who worked tirelessly with Brenda until her passing.
