Juanita "Nita" Hughes, 91, of Arlington, passed away on January 18, 2023 in Arlington, Texas.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7 pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel, 7301 East Lancaster, Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 26, 2023 with Dr. Denis Wiles of First Baptist Arlington, officiating. Burial will follow at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery.
Nita was born in Weatherford, Texas to Jim and Pearl Quate on February 18, 1931. She went to school in Rayville Louisiana and Handley High School in Fort Worth, Texas. She married Bert Ray Hughes on August 24, 1951 in Fort Worth, Texas. She worked as a full-time mother and held management positions in retail sales for Monnigs/Stripling Cox. She also held various volunteer roles as Sunday School teacher, Women’s Mission Organization (WMU) member and officer, West Handley Elementary room mother, PTA president, and other PTA officer roles.
Nita is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Bert Ray Hughes; her father Jim D. Quate and her mother Pearl Leota Quate; her sisters Muriel Duncan, Imogene McRaye, and Evelyn Cantrell; her brothers Paul Quate and Morris T Quate.
Nita is survived by her four children, Judy Jones (husband Bob Jones), Karen Cypull (husband Tom Cypull), Melissa Bradley (husband Harry Bradley), and Robert Hughes (husband Hector DeJesus); her sister Bobbie Case; her 5 grandchildren, Joanna McCord (husband Justin McCord), Alison Amate (husband Jose Amate), Casey Bradley (wife Sarah Bradley), Katie Bradley, and Noah Cypull; her 9 great-grandchildren, Pierce McCord, Luke Amate, Stella McCord, Nate Gotcher-Amate, Oliver Bradley, Jade Amate, Amelia Bradley, Aiden Bradley, and Ethan Bradley.
Pallbearers will be Bob Jones, Tom Cypull, Harry Bradley, Casey Bradley, Noah Cypull, Justin McCord, and Jose Amate.
Memorials may be given to Vogel Alcove, a non-profit serving homeless children and families and led by Nita’s daughter www.vogelalcove.org or Mission Arlington www.missionarlington.org
The family of Nita wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and residents (her friends) at Heartis Arlington Assisted Living who created a home for her the last four years.
