Ken's perfect pitch helped him develop into an accomplished musician and excellent trumpeter earning him a chair in the All State band while in high-school, a scholarship to Texas Wesleyan College and a seat in the One O'clock Lounge Band at North Texas State University. In 1961, he met Sue Simpson, his future loving wife, at a girl's slumber party, which he crashed. The Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962 prompted Ken to join the Air Force in 1963 all in pursuit to play in the Air Force Band. However, Uncle Sam determined that his talents would be most valuable as a communication specialist where he earned “President Eyes Only” top clearance and was station in Tainan, Taiwan. Before Ken was shipped off to Taiwan, he and Sue started to date.

In 2008, Ken retired and he and Sue moved back to Fort Worth to be close to family.
