Kevin James Cathey was born on June 4, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma by his loving parents, Reynolds Cathey, Jr., and Dolores Cathey.
Kevin attended St. Monica and Holy Family for grade school, graduating from McLain High School in 1977. He continued his education at Okmulgee Tech and Spartan School of Aeronautics. He obtained his A/P license and worked in the Aeronautics field his entire career, including Boeing, Raytheon, Spirit and Lockheed Martin, where he met his wife, Janice Cathey.
A fun fact about Kevin is he was shy as a teenager. He was an altar boy at the Catholic school where he excelled in mathematics. Kevin loved his family, friends, his job, coworkers, meeting new people, nature, and the Lord! His favorite things to do were fishing, learning history about animals, watching classic car shows and sports. His favorite college football team is the Oklahoma Sooners and a diehard professional league Las Vegas (formally Oakland) Raiders fan and definitely NOT a Dallas Cowboys fan, although he lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for over 20 years. Being married to Janice, who is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, Kevin's motto was “happy wife, happy life” so he would say, “Go Cowboys” with a smirk.
Kevin is predeceased by his father, Reynolds Cathey, grandparents, Reynolds Cathey, Sr., Ophelia Cathey, Lemuel Taylor, and Inola Taylor.
He leaves behind his wife Janice Cathey, mother, Dolores Cathey, brothers, Reynolds Cathey III and Steven Cathey, sister Joyce Jeffrey (Kevin), sons, Adrian Bruner. Ki’Ounta Cathey (Ashlei), and Murray Ward III. His daughters, Ashanti Bruner, and Korrine Jarvis (Brandon). Grandchildren, Gabriel Bruner, Adrian Bruner Jr, Christoper Bruner, KiEisha Cathey, Rayshun Cathey, Kaliyah Cathey, KiMorah Cathey. A host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, friends, and coworkers.
