He was born in Houston, TX on August 29, 1946. Larry graduated from Paschal High School and received his Master's from Texas Tech University and his PhD from Texas A&M University.
He was married to Jeannette deSouza on May 25, 1974, in Plainview, Texas. Larry was founding Director of the Plant Diagnostic Lab at Texas A&M for 34 years.
His greatest love was for his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved gardening and stock trading. He will be remembered for his high level of integrity, great humility, and strength of character.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Edith Lynn Barnes, and his brother Raymond Barnes.
He is survived by his wife Jeannette, his children Kerri & Harry Hernandez and Bradley Barnes, his grandchildren Harry, Noah, and Sophia Hernandez, and his siblings Linda & Roger Floyd and Elspeth Barnes.
A private memorial service will be held in his home in Burleson.
