Ben made a career as a CPA after serving in the US Navy on active duty for seven years and then thirteen years in the reserves, rising to the rank of Commander. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University, and later an MBA from the University of North Texas. He was also a long time member of the First Christian Church of Irving where he served faithfully as an elder, enjoyed singing in the choir with his wife, Dana Lee, and spent time ministering to all those around him. He was known for his kindness, gentleness and charitable nature; when he saw someone in need (whether physical or spiritual), he would do whatever he could to meet that need and make them feel seen and loved. His kindness was equally matched by his silliness and antics aimed at making his grandchildren laugh; whether singing Hole in the Bottom of Sea, performing as a one-man band, or pretending to be a bug on the floor, this naval intelligence officer could pretend and play make believe with equal brilliance. He was the rock in the lives of his grandchildren, and their example of what a good, kind, godly man truly looks like. His love was constant and dependable.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Dana Lee Coomer; and daughter Lesli Bennett. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Remington and her husband Jim; brother, Jesse Coomer; sister, Sandra Boren; special friend and mother of his children Carolyn Love; grandchildren, Emily Cormier, Jonathan Cormier, Samuel Cormier, Jennifer Couture and her husband Ed Bustillos, Brandi Couture and her wife Carla, Joey Salazar, Sarah Bennett and her husband Ethan and Joshua Bennett; great-grandchildren Timothy, Madison, Ben, Claudia and Preston James; great-great-granddaughter Mackenzie, as well as many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 19, at 9:00 a.m., at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.
