We sadly announce the passing of our loved one, Louis Carl Monthie, who left us on September 17, 2018. Louis was born February 15, 1924 in Malone, Texas to Henry and Olga Zettler Monthei and was one of 10 children. He graduated from Penelope High School and was a star on the track team setting a track record. Louis was 18 years old when he was inducted into the Army to fight in World War II. He was sent to Camp White in Oregon for training and on to the front in Germany. Louis was part of the 300th Combat Engineer Battalion. He fought in the third wave that landed at Normandy on June 6, 1944, D-Day. He would later fight in the battle of Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Louis was awarded several medals for his bravery and service.
After the war ended, Louis married Virginia Marie Frazier on June 25, 1948 in St. Paul Lutheran Church where they were lifelong members. Louis worked for Swift and Company until it closed down in 1971. He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed spending time working on his cattle ranch in Blum, Texas along side his late son, Richard Sr. Louis was a fine Christian man, a friend to everyone and quick to give a smile and a helping hand. He was a great cook. He leaves behind a grieving family and a large community of friends who mourn his loss. Louis was beloved by all who knew him.
Louis is survived by his daughter, Patty Monthie Guinn and her husband John. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Richard Sr.'s sons, Richard II and Mitchell Monthie. Louis is also survived by Patty and John's daughters, Kerri Harris, her husband, Jim, Christie Thomas and her husband Mike and their families. Louis is survived by his brother, Melvin Monthei and his wife Mary along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his son, Richard Monthie Sr., his granddaughter Shannon Monthie, his parents Henry and Olga Zettler Monthei and brothers Fred Monthei, Victor Monthei, Odell Monthei, Dennis Monthei, Allen Monthei and sisters Ella Mae Maynard, Lenora Robertson and Lillian Caram.
There will be a visitation at 6:00pm this Friday at Laurel Land Funeral Home located at 7100 Crowley Road in Fort Worth. Services will be held at 3:00pm this Saturday, September 22 at Laurel Land. The family requests that donations be sent to your local VA Medical center in lieu of flowers to help wounded veterans.
