Lyla Ruth (Hood) Goad passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025 in Fort Worth, Tx. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James C. Goad. She is survived by her sons, Alan (Chrisann) and Brad (Rainy); granddaughters, Ashley Thorne (James), Heather Brenton (Cooper), and Kamryn Colazzi; great-grandsons, Owen, Noah, Daniel, and Cooper; and sister, Joy.
Born on September 9, 1933, in Dallhart, Tx, Lyla was the daughter of a farmer and a schoolteacher. Despite early health challenges, she developed a deep love for learning, especially reading. She cherished mysteries and travel books, but her greatest love was the Bible, reading through it annually, often using the Chronological Bible.
Lyla dedicated much of her life to teaching and writing. She served for years as a high school Sunday School teacher at South Hills Baptist Church, nurturing young hearts in faith. She also contributed to the Sunday School curriculum for the Baptist Sunday School Board in Nashville, TN.
She and James found joy in the mountains of Colorado, passing their love of God's creation on to Alan and Brad. Most importantly, she came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior in her youth, a faith she carried throughout her life.
Her favorite scripture, Psalm 139: 16-17, reflects her deep belief: She was fearfully and wonderfully made - for this life and eternity.
There will be a private family graveside service at the National Cemetery, per her request. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to the Missions Department at Christ United Jackson (Brad is lead Pastor). Christ United Jackson, 6000 Old Canton Rd. Jackson, MS 39211 or www.christunitedjxn.org/give.
