Watauga, TX – Lyndon Kent Johnson, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 75 on August 18, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving family and his wife Judy of 27 years. Mr. Johnson was born to Glenn and Mable Johnson on July 14, 1943 in Boone, Iowa and spent his childhood in the small farming community of Stratford, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating high school in 1961 and served as a cavalry scout and subsequently as a Hercule Missile Crewman. Mr. Johnson served honorably for 23 years, allowing his family to experience the richness of living in Germany and a number of states in North America.
Mr. Johnson’s surviving family include his two daughters, Angela Johnson, Valerie (Bret) Barcik and granddaughter Mia, brother Bernard (Betty) Johnson, stepchildren Darren (Becky) Madden, Sue Keyworth, Sandy Madden, Dennis (Annie) Madden and Shelley Madden in addition to his niece and nephew, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family and a close-knit circle of friends.
Mr. Johnson never met a stranger in his life and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, telling stories, hunting and fishing. His final wish was to have the cavalryman’s poem ‘Fiddlers’ Green’ read at his service. ‘First Soldier’ will be laid to rest at Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at 12:30 pm with full military honors.
