Mae Dolores Dowlen

Dolores was born November 17, 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia. The family moved to Forest Park, GA where she attended Forest Park schools. She was saved and baptized Nov. 8, 1958 at Victory Baptist Church in Forest Park, GA. After graduating high school, she attended the Bible Baptist Seminary in Arlington, TX. There she met her future husband, Kenneth. They were married August 10, 1965. They had their daughter, Lisa on January 29, 1969.

Dolores and her husband served in the music ministry for several years. She served in various capacities in ministry with her husband in four states: Texas, Georgia, Florida and South Dakota. As a family they came back to Texas in the early 80’s. Her husband attended seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. At that time, Dolores worked in hospitals in the respiratory department – St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Worth, Northeast Community Hospital in Hurst, and North Hills Hospital in North Richland Hills.

While working as a respiratory therapist she became a grandmother. Her daughter has three sons, Garrett, Justin, and Luke McGuire. She retired after 20 years in respiratory therapy.

Dolores was diagnosed with breast cancer, and later contracted cancer in the colon, abdomen and liver, which eventually took her life on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 5:30 a.m.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Dowlen; 2 sisters, Linda Verschuren (John Verschuren) and Christy Howard (Charles Howard); her brother, Dan Pope; her daughter, Lisa McGuire (Paul McGuire) and three grandsons, Garrett McGuire, Justin McGuire and Luke McGuire.
