Marie Eldora Brown

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Marie Eldora Brown, a native of New York who passed away on December 18, 2023 in Arlington, Texas, she was 83. Marie a devoted Christian touched the lives of many with her unwavering faith and love for God. She left a legacy of kindness, compassion, and loyalty.

Marie Eldora Brown was born to parents rooted in faith, Marie Carter Jones and Edward Wilfred Jones on January 11, 1940. She was a graduate of Suffern High School in 1958, and went on to earn a BA at Hunter College and a Master’s degree at San Francisco State University.

In 1959 Marie wed Zack Brown of Powhatan, Virginia and they divorced in 1977. Marie gave birth to the first of her children Wallace and Kimberly in 1966, then her last Gavin in 1971. She enjoyed a successful career as a college administrator, holding successively more senior positions in the Los Angeles Community College system retiring in 2000.

Throughout her life, Marie actively participated in the church community, finding solace, support, and a sense of belonging. She dedicated countless hours to various ministries, spreading the message of God's love and grace to all who crossed her path.

In her leisure time Marie was an avid gardener and homemaker. Her green thumb brought beauty, life and delicious tomatoes into the world. Marie seemed to have a magical touch, as flowers and plants would flourish in her care. Always one to tantalize taste buds with her many culinary delights and a love for the art of cooking. She was also a skilled artisan never far from her sewing machines, creating tailored clothes and quilts for her grandchildren, Isaac and Aaron.

Marie was preceded in death by father Edward Jones, mother Marie Jones, brothers Edward Jones and James Jones, and her eldest son Wallace Brown.

Marie is survived by her son Gavin Brown, daughter Kimberly Brown Blacklow and her husband Ken Blacklow, brother Thomas Jones, and grandchildren Isaac Blacklow and Aaron Blacklow.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 5th, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
