On August 14, 2014, Marshall C Shirley traded the bonds of earth for the wild blue yonder. Throughout his 94 years, he was a true representative of the Greatest Generation, faithfully serving his country, community and family. A native of Fort Worth, he served in the Air Force as a B-17 ball turret gunner during World War II. For decades, he made his customers feel special when they visited him in the shoe department at Monnig's Westcliff. Kids loved to have their toes squeaked by Mr. Shirley!
Marshall was a 50+ year Mason and past Master of the Hemphill Heights Masonic Lodge. He was a beloved Daddy, Papaw and Uncle Corky to his family. Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings and wife of 66 years, Carolyn Oels Shirley.
He will forever be in the memories of his daughter, Marsha Lynn Shirley Patton, granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Holder, great-grandchildren, Cameron and Katie Holder, nieces, nephews, Masonic brethren and friends. Special appreciation goes to all the caregivers who helped and supported Marshall in his later years.
