We were fortunate to know Gayland for about 30 years.  He was kind, he was funny, he was serious and gentle and we were blessed to know him.  He was unique!   We no longer live in the Fort Worth area and were not in close contact with Gayland recently and did not know of his passing.   Our thoughts and prayers for Katie and her family for their loss.  

Today, I learned of Fr. Pool's death and Requiem Mass.  My first memories date back to when he was Episcopal Chaplain at TCU.  Although I haven't seen him in some years, I anticipate his homecoming with the angels in heaven will be a welcome home for the man who danced with the stars.

Rest Eternal, Grant unto Him, O Lord, and Let light perpetual shine upon him. AMEN.

At an address he gave once, Alan Jones recounted that during the Early Desert period, an ascetic once claimed, "I am not a Christian . . . but I have seen one." In Gayland, I saw that elusive and marvelous thing--a Christian; indeed, I believe I saw what it means to be human.

Father Gayland Pool was one of my great influences. He saw the light when others only saw the darkness, he heard the sound when others were deaf,and he stopped to help when others walked away. 

I am a better person because of Father Pool. May be rest in peace but let his compassion toward others be loud and clear for others to 
carry on.

I will miss Fr. Pool's charm, wit and spiritual acumen. His voice remains in my memories as well as our time at St. Luke's. God's blessing on the family.
