Marva Nella Lewis was born on Friday, October 24, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Fred Lewis and
Mary D. James. On Friday, February 7, 2025, Marva was called home to be with the Lord.
Marva began her early education in the Fort Worth Independent School District and was a proud
member of the Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School Class of 1967.
She began her career at Lone Star Gas Company, where she formed many lifelong friendships.
Marva later joined the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2002 due to health challenges.
Marva accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted, life-long member of Ebenezer
Missionary Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the Mass Choir, Women of Vision
Ministry, and the Women’s Ministry. Her commitment to serving others extended beyond the
church as she was the Director of the Stop Six Senior Citizens for the Brighter Outlook Center.
She also played a key role in coordinating the Dunbar Class of 1967 reunions.
Marva was cherished for her warm spirit, sense of humor, and devotion to her family and friends.
She treasured her time with her sisters, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Marva was
a devoted and resilient mother who selflessly dedicated her life to raising her three children,
instilling in them the values of faith, love, and perseverance. She was a proud Nana to her five
grandchildren, often seen and heard boasting about their accomplishments and celebrating every
millstone with joy and pride. She enjoyed collecting figurines, traveling with friends, visiting
casinos, and creating memories with her loved ones.
On February 7, 2025, Marva surrendered to the will of the Lord. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Mary D. James and Fred Lewis; her sister, Regina James; and her brother, Donald
Lewis.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her family, including her
children: Antoinette (Andy) White, Tamilla (Tami) Lewis, and Roman Lewis; her sisters: Ida B.
Fryar (Norwood), LaPearl Lewis, and Sheryl Boucher (Jeremy); her grandchildren: Chanel
Lewis-Bonsu, Daniel Morehead, Tristan Lewis, Payton Morehead, and Saige Lewis; and her
nieces and nephews: Chanda Hilliard; James, Jocelyn, and Jordan (Shannon) Rollerson; Kouri
Simmons; and Shondra, Armand Jr., and Wendi Webster; Ashley Scott. She also leaves other
relatives, cousins, great nieces/nephews, and special friends who will forever treasure her
memory.
Marva’s love, humor, and strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew her
