

Mary Ann Guess passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2016. Service: 10 am Friday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 6-8 pm Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth. Interment is 2 pm Friday at Colony Cemetery in Ranger, Texas. Memorials: the family suggests donations in Mary Ann's memory should be made to the American Lung Association at: www.lung.org
Mary Ann was born on December 22, 1929 in Ranger to Charles and Nannie Hathcock. She has joined in Heaven her parents, husband of 41 years, George T. Guess Sr., daughter, Eva Kay Guess, and brother, Pete Hathcock. Mary Ann graduated from Morton Valley with the class of 1946. She then attended business school. Mary Ann dabbled in many different industries and worked hard in every endeavor she undertook. She went to work for SW Bell as a telephone operator. The Federal Reserve in Houston employed her as a currency sorter. In 1972 she helped her husband open and run Guess Texaco Station until his passing in 1989, she then continued with her son’s help through 1993. After retirement Mary Ann joined a senior’s group ukulele band and played together at different places. She enjoyed card games and dominoes where she could socialize with others and fulfill her love of game playing. When she was able, Mary Ann kept a garden and did her own yard work. She was self sufficient, strong willed and determined. If you visited her home, Mary Ann was sure that you never left hungry. Her family remembers her as a wonderful cook who loved to try new recipes and adding a dash of this or that to spice things up. She continued to cook up until only a few weeks before her passing. Mary Ann was devoted to her family and fiercely protective of them. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wonderful friend, Mary Ann will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jo Ann Woodrich and husband Bill, Tom Guess; grandchildren, Billy Woodrich, Bradley Woodrich, Robert Guess, Diana Hall and husband Brandon; great grandchildren, Chloe & Lillie; siblings, Joy Key, John Hathcock and wife Winnie, Buster Hathcock and wife Betty; nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
