Mary was the youngest of 14 children. She grew up surrounded by siblings, cousins, love for the Lord and music! The last two surviving siblings, Margaret Knight and Bernie Robertson are here with us today.
The first car she ever drove was a Model T!
Shortly after the death of her mother, Mary joined the Women’s Army Corp.
She was stationed in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War.
She worked in telecommunications and enjoyed traveling in Europe on days off.
She was proud of serving her country. She was also a part of the Air Force reserves.
September of 1955, she married James Lubbe, Sr. They had three children Terri, Rhonda and James, Jr. In 1962, the marriage ended in divorce, Mary, and the three children traveled by train to Fort Worth, Texas so she would be near her family.
She had begun her career with General Motors in Ohio and transferred to Texas. During her time with GM, she went back to college and earned a business degree, while continuing to work full time. After graduation, she became the first woman supervisor in the Dallas Parts plant. She fought hard to get the job and was very proud of her accomplishment.
She made many life-long friends in her 32 years at GM. Many of her coworkers became clients as she started Mary’s Tax Service and worked another twelve years as a tax preparer after retiring from GM.
As a family, she taught the kids to play cards, dominoes and jacks – she liked to have fun!
Mary raised her children in church, often attending 4 or 5 times a week. She instilled in them, a love for the Lord. Anytime they were in the car – you could expect to hear them singing as they traveled down the road.
With the birth of her first granddaughter, Natalie, she got a new name – Nanny!
She loved being Nanny to Natalie, Summer, Keysha, Stephanie, Amy, Cari, Casi, Cory and Justin.
Next came the great-grandkids Ethan, John, Sam, Jack
Brenna and Brayden
Joseph
Chuck and Trinity
Ms Mary – as they called her was also a Nanny to the Eckl family – Suzie, Tommy, Danny and Timmy.
Mary loved TV, movies, music and flirting with good-looking men.
She made a lasting impression with her ability to bring laughter and joy to those around her. Even with the stronghold of dementia – she remembered the words to so many songs and she loved to sing. No doubt, she has already joined the choir.
Mary B. Lubbe went home to glory Wednesday January 16, 2019
Visitation will be 12:00 pm Monday January 21, 2019 followed by A Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel Fort Worth, Texas.
