Mary Louise Mann McCoy, a devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 80. Born in Dallas, Texas, Mary Louise lived a life rooted in family, faith, and service.
Mary Louise pursued her love of learning at Texas Christian University, earning her undergraduate degree before continuing to receive a Master’s degree from the University of North Texas. Her passion for education blossomed into a lifelong career in teaching. She spent many years shaping young lives as a dedicated teacher at Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth, where she was respected not only for her high standards and unwavering fairness, but also for the deep compassion and commitment she showed to every student who walked through her classroom door.
Mary Louise’s faith was the steady foundation of her life. She gave freely of her time, always ready to lend a hand and lift others with her servant’s heart. Helping out—whether for family, friends, or her community—was how she showed love, and she did it with quiet grace.
Outside of her work and spiritual life, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures: gardening, sewing, dancing, traveling, and spending time with the people she loved most. She had a timeless elegance, never leaving the house without her hair styled and her signature makeup. Even in her final days, nurses admired her radiant smile and flawless skin— a trait her daughters lovingly joked she didn’t pass down. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by family, singing and dancing to country and western music.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Jim R. Mann and Minnis C. “Mac” McCoy; her parents, Charles and Zilpha Dailey; and her siblings Charles Lewis Dailey, John Dailey, and Florence “Mazie” Dailey.
She is survived by her daughters, Cecilie Engle and Erin Hammel; grandchildren, Nicole Engle, Dylan Engle and William Hammel, Jr. Her memory will live on in their hearts and in the countless lives she touched.
Mary Louise’s kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed. The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice Austin, Shady Trails Senior Care, and Brookdale Northwest Hills Senior Living for their care and support during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Mary Louise.
