

Marzie Nolene Bartee of Burleson, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born between Jonesboro and Turnersville, Texas in a community called Pancake on April 17th, 1929. Marzie graduated from Turnersville High School and received her bachelor’s degree in business and English from McMurry College. She was married to J.T. (Sandy) Bartee in July of 1949 in Turnersville, Texas. Marzie worked as a secretary early in their marriage until Sandy returned home from the Korean War. She then became a homemaker, a wonderful loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a lifelong community volunteer. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for over sixty years, and she is leaving behind a legacy of servanthood. Marzie will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Some of Marzie’s awards consist of: Volunteer of the Year for the city of Burleson in 1997; 1998 Burleson Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year; 1998 Woman of the Year from the United Methodist Women-Central Texas Conference; and the McMurry College Presidents Council Award in 2003. Marzie was a member of the Burleson Chamber of Commerce board of Directors and was treasurer and director for the Burleson Heritage Foundation. She was a member of the Burleson Retired Teachers Association and the Texas Lions Club. In 1999, the Burleson Chamber of Commerce established the “Marzie Bartee Award” that is awarded annually.
Marzie was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Sandy Bartee, her son, Mitch Bartee, her sister, Nelda Gathings, and her parents, Jack and Alma Weaver. She is survived by her daughters, Sheri Shaw of Tolar, and Lesa Newell and her husband Mike of Cleburne. Grandchildren, Shelly Carrington and her husband Gary of Burleson, Justin Harvey and his wife Raven of Burleson, Austin Newell and his wife Jennifer of Hurst, and Dillon Newell of Midlothian. Great-grandchildren Payton and Preston Carrington, John and Taylor Harvey, and Emma and Jackson Newell
Visitation will be at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth on Friday, March 22nd, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm
Marzie’s celebration of life service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Burleson on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at 1:00pm and burial will follow at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth.
Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church of Burleson.
