

Mattie was born on August 25, 1925 in Waco, Texas to Ralph and Mattie Lou Lucas. In her early years she lived in Waxahachie, Venus and Malone before moving to Fort Worth where she graduated from Poly High School in 1944.
On March 27, 1948 she married Clyde Brawner. They raised two sons Ronnie and David.
Mattie worked for Southwestern Bell as a phone operator for 10 years before retiring as a housewife in 1954. Mattie’s two favorite hobbies included her passion for canvas, tole painting and flower arranging. She combined these two favorite hobbies to create extraordinary art.
She was a charter member of the Hallmark Garden Club which was established in 1961 where she remained a member for over 40 years. She is a long-time member of University Baptist Church in Fort Worth, and she was a devout Christian.
Mattie was preceded in death by her father, Ralph, and her mother Mattie, sisters, Martha and Minnie and her husband Clyde. She is survived by sons Ronnie and his wife Martha; David and his wife Cathy; four grandchildren Mark Brawner, Brent Brawner, Luann Dodson (husband Jonathan), and Becky Brawner; four great-grandchildren Brodey Brawner, Dallas Smith, Julian Smith, and Teddy Smith.
