Morriss was born July 21, 1944. Morriss was the son of the late Roy Lee Johnson and Florence Lorena Bagwell Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Morriss graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and attended the University of Texas at Arlington after completing his military service. Morriss served in the 79th Army Band, known as Los Ambassadors de la Musica. Stationed in Panama Canal Zone, the band traveled throughout Central and South America. He played Bb clarinet in marching and concert band and baritone saxophone in the Army dance band. More recently, Morriss played Bb clarinet in Northwest Community Band and Fort Worth Symphonic Band.
Morriss was a Registered Architect, Registered Interior Designer, Certified Construction Specifier, Certified Construction Contract Administrator, and LEED Accredited Professional. Morriss served Fort Worth professional community as president of Fort Worth Chapter of CSI and president of Fort Worth Chapter of AIA.
Morriss is survived by his long-time love Barbara Lee, daughter Ember Mitchell, son Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Denise, and granddaughters Katherine Mitchell, Elizabeth Mitchell, Rebecca Johnson, and Sarah Johnson.
