Myrtle Faye Wright left this earthly life on January 12, 2017 surrounded by her family. Myrtle was born July 16, 1923 in Brinkman, Oklahoma to Walter and Isabelle Stanford. She was a year older than her sister, Oda Fern West, who preceded her in death in 2013. The Stanford family moved to Texas when the girls were very young. Myrtle graduated Hamilton High School in 1940 and Howard Payne University in 1943. She married Daniel B. Wright, Jr. in 1943 and they had two daughters, Doris Jan Haker and Dana Joan Hastings. Myrtle and Dan both worked for the United States Government. After Myrtle completed 22 years of service, she and Dan made the decision to retire and spend their time in service to the Lord and enjoying their family, friends and, of course, traveling. Their adventurous spirits, led them to pull a travel trailer all over the United States including most of the National Parks and even through downtown Manhattan. Myrtle faithfully supported Dan as he dealt with Parkinson’s disease. Myrtle’s great sense of humor and faith in Jesus during even these difficult times were an example to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by Dan on May 31, 1997.
Myrtle took great joy in her family and was extremely proud of each and every one of them. She was especially happy that her faith in Jesus Christ was being taken on by every member of her family.
Myrtle and Dan had many dear friends in the Church of Christ in many cities but especially in Temple, Texas at Western Hills Church of Christ, in Arlington, Texas, at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, and in Fort Worth, Texas, at Lakewood Village.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Isabelle Stanford, her husband, Daniel B. Wright, Jr., her sister, Oda Fern West, and her brother-in-law Carrol West.
