Olen Nelson Mitchell Jr.

grandfather, respected businessman and caring friend, went to be with Jesus and loved ones

who have gone before him on September 28, 2017. His presence and love will be greatly

missed.

Known as O.N., Mr. Mitchell, Big Nelson, Daddy, and Pepaw, Nelson was born October

1st, 1926 in Dallas, Texas. By early elementary school he had settled in Fort Worth,TX with his

parents. He served in the Navy as an Aviation Electronic Tech mate doing research in sending

typed messages via radio frequency across distances up to 30 miles, the first text messaging.

Pepaw married the love of his life, Helen Margaret Skaines, on December 31, 1947. They had

two sons Bryan and Dee who filled their lives with joy. They were married for 64 years until her

passing. Pepaw’s delight in and devotion to Helen was legendary. He will forever be

remembered for his example of faithful love, leaving behind a legacy to be cherished for many

generations.

Pepaw founded History Maker Homes in 1949 with his father Olen. He established a

reputation as a sharp businessman with a keen eye, highly respected by his peers. He knew

what mattered most in life and lived out his Christian faith with integrity, humility, and gentleness.

As the family patriarch, Pepaw exemplified a quiet strength as he led his family and company

with a steady hand. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke his words were full of

wisdom and strength. Pepaw was a hero, a giant of a man for his loving devotion and kind spirit

towards all.

The family wants to thank all his caretakers that have been such a blessing to the family.

They have served him with love and care that goes beyond words.

Nelson was preceded in death by his wife Helen Margaret.

He is survived by his sons: Bryan and wife, Sandy Mitchell, Dee Mitchell

Grandkids Nelson Mitchell and Liz, Nicole Youngblood and Kevin

Great-grandkids: Jake, Miles, and Luke Mitchell , Colson and Ellie Youngblood.
