Our beloved Opal Mae Butts, 95 passed away on January 23, 2021 in Keller, Texas. She was born on February 7, 1925 to Alfred and Dora Lovett. She was a member of the Greatest Generation, as she was the youngest and longest living of five children: brother Joe Lovett and dear wife Jane; sisters, Orlena Amos, Ruth Watson and Frances Wattner.
Opal married the love of her life, Carroll Thomas Butts on September 12, 1946 and they were inseparable for 54 years. Together they enjoyed their active family and love for travel. Opal was a “Big D” girl in Oak Cliff, but moved to Handley in 1960 and became a proud resident of the Eastside of Ft. Worth. She was a devoted member of the Handley United Methodist Church where she had many fond memories and cherished friendships. Opal was known for her passion and dedication to Civil Rights from a young age. She lived 10 yrs alone, volunteering in the church office and driving till 90 yrs of age.
Proceeded in death by her husband, C.T. in 2004, her parents and siblings. She is survived by her daughter Bev Lewellen of Grapevine; son David Butts and his wife Lorrie of Grapevine; five precious grandchildren she adored; State Lewellen and his wife Page and children, Colt, twins Claire and Anabell of NRH; Kanna Myers and her husband Robert and children, Grant, of Austin, Emily, Mackenzie and Kate of Coppell; Angela Hall and her husband Jeff and children, Julia, Andrew and Makayla Clark of Grapevine; Lambra Lewellen of Austin and Renee Quinlan and her husband Matt and daughter Valerie of Justin; several beloved nieces and a nephew and her trusted Care Giver, Dina Avila.
Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10:00am at the Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.
