With love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Patricia Ann Evans, affectionately known to everyone as “Granny.” Patricia was born on November 3, 1930, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Patrick Evans Jr. and Rosetta McGinnis Evans. She passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025.
Patricia grew up in the Riverside neighborhood of Fort Worth and attended Historical I.M. Terrell High School. She later made her home in the Eastwood community, where she lived for over fifty years and built a long and fulfilling life surrounded by neighbors and friends. She dedicated more than thirty years of service as Head Custodian in the Fort Worth Independent School District, where she was respected for her hard work and no-nonsense attitude.
As a child, Patricia joined Morning Chapel C.M.E. Church, where she remained a faithful member throughout her life, ultimately becoming the church’s oldest member. She served for many years on the Senior Usher Board and as a Stewardess, greeting everyone with her trademark blend of warmth and candor. Granny loved giving small gifts to the children at church—whether it was a cookie, a banana, or simply her smile and playful spirit.
Those who knew Granny knew she was one of a kind. She had a sweet side and a sharp side, and she always spoke her mind—you never had to wonder what she was thinking. She loved to “style and profile,” keeping a hand mirror and comb in her purse so she could primp whenever she pleased. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and spending time with friends, and in her younger years she was known to light up the dance floor when she went out with her girlfriends. She loved good music, good conversation, and could talk for hours on the phone with her friends.
In her later years, Granny found her greatest joy in her family. She especially loved attending family gatherings and sporting events, where she could always be found cheering proudly for her grandchildren. Her love, humor, style, and authenticity touched every life she encountered and will be forever remembered.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Zolita White and Patrick Evans III; and her beloved daughters Juanita Evans Jefferson and Doris Marie Evans.
She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren Angela Bell, Wayne Ashford, and Katrina Carter (Clarence); step-grandchildren Deanna Williams and Dwayne Jefferson; great-grandchildren Edwin Bell II, Ethan Bell, Evan Bell, Clarence Carter III, Detosha Williams, Devante Jefferson, Kiondra Williams, Kailyn Williams, Kennedy Carter, and Dwayne Jefferson Jr; and great-great-grandchildren Josiah Hood, Makenzie Holmes, and Krue Jefferson. She is also survived by her former son-in-law Thomas Jefferson; her devoted God-daughter Maudia Gentry; her faithful four-legged friend, Scooter, who rarely left her side; her nieces and nephews and a host of extended family, church family and friends who will miss her dearly.
