Born August 29, 1943, in Waco, Texas to Perry Douglas Cates, Sr. and Mary Virginia Cates. His family moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he attended all his schooling, graduating from Paschal High School where he played football and set track records. He was selected "Mr. Stardust" his Senior year by Natalie Woods. After graduating in 1962, he attended the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship.
After returning to Fort Worth he married and had a son, Perry Douglas Cates, III. He served in the National Guard 1964-1970.
On September 20, 1997, he married Judy Baker Norris in Honolulu, Hawaii on the beach at Paradise Cove. He loved gardening and attending the many tropical flowers in their garden and yard in Arlington, Texas.
Doug was very outgoing and never met a stranger. You always had his full attention when talking to him. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved hosting large Thanksgiving dinners for his family and friends. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and TCU Hornfrogs and never missed watching a game with his nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his Parents, Brother Sam Cates, Sister Barbara Green, Brother-in-law Norman Green, Brother-in-law John Harville.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy, Son, Perry, Brother John Cates and wife Karen; Sister Linda Harville, Sister Debbie Sawyer and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
