A native of Snyder, Texas, Phyllis was the youngest of 13 siblings. She is survived by her husband, Bill Guthrie and her children Misty Skinner and Cindy Wood and her husband Shawn; her four grandchildren, Karly and Kyle Skinner, and Aaron and Ashlin Wood; Bill’s children John Guthrie and his wife Kathy, Wendy Davis and her husband Kendall, Mark Guthrie and his wife Shelly, and Raney Azada, and their 17 children; her siblings Patsy Berry, Forest Miles, Bobbie Tubener, Nancy Lee, and Faith Blocker; her stepchildren Gwendy Sublette and Greg Murray and his wife Denise, and their children Brad Clark and his wife Mallory, Katelyn McCracken and her husband Austin, and Scott Murray and his wife Kayla. Phyllis was also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to a career in banking, Phyllis was known to everyone as a woman who placed her family first and loved everyone she met. Whether she was in your life for years or met you for the first time, if you knew Phyllis, you were an instant part of her family. She wanted her legacy to be known as “Mama,” “Grammy,” and “Bray.” Her life was centered around her girls and their proudest achievements. Regardless of where life took them, Phyllis wanted to be a part of their journey. She loved them and everyone who knew her knew about her “sweet girls” Misty and Cindy.
Her fondest memories were going to church worshipping the Lord, being with her siblings during family reunions, and spending time during holiday dinners with her children and grandchildren. Before she met Bill, she shared a full life of love and joy with Ben Murray for more than 30 years. Following his death, she reconnected with her childhood friend, Bill. Those few months she shared with him laughing made everything seem complete to her and were among her most treasured times in life. With Bill by her side, she enjoyed sitting outside on the porch in their country home and fixing their flower beds with her little dog Delilah.
She is preceded in death by her former husband, Ben Murray of Van Alstyne, Texas; her siblings Earl Edward Miles, Gene Miles, Alton Lee Miles, David Miles, Dennis Miles, Jackie Miles, and Mary Beggs; and her parents Audley O’dell and Ruby LaRue Miles. Phyllis will be laid to rest in Van Alstyne.
