

Rachel Marie Kankey was born on June 25, 1986, and passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2026, at the age of 40. Her parents are Greg Kankey and Deena Hughes. She was a happy fun-loving affectionate child who brought great joy to those around her. Her Grandparents, Vaughn and Marcella Kankey and Carole Castelberry Bohn, treasured the time they spent with her. For the first four years of her life, Rachel was the only grandchild, and she held a very special place in their hearts.
Rachel is survived by her parents, Greg Kankey of Bedford, Deena Castelberry Hughes, siblings, Rebecca Kankey, Jacob Kankey, Grandmother, Carole Castleberry Bohn. Aunt Deborah Kankey Blount, cousins Kyle Huff, Steven Crandall and Matt Crandall and many others. Rachel was also loved and supported by the Hughes family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Vaughn & Marcella Kankey and Ted Castelberry, and her Aunt Susan Huff and Uncle Gary Huff.
Rachel was the oldest of three children, with her sister Rebecca, six years younger and her brother Jacob, twelve years younger. The family shared many happy times together, especially during summers filled with sports, fishing, swimming in the family pool and enjoying time together. Rachel attended Glenview Christian School, and Temple Christian Academy, where she made many friends and enjoyed spending time with her classmates. Surrounded by the people she cared about.
Rachel faced many challenges and struggles throughout her lifetime. Some she was able to conquer, others she battled throughout the entirety of her life. Her faith was strong throughout her battles. She had a tender and giving heart and an innocence in many areas, however some challenges that we are born with are impossible to conquer. Through all of her challenges and struggles she was loved and supported by her family and extended family. Her family is grateful for the hope and progress she experienced during the last 7 Months of her life. She drew closer to God during these months and showed a strength that many people never know. She faces no more challenges in the arms of her Savior.
Those who loved her will remember Rachel not only for the strength she showed while battling the struggles she faced, but the happy little girl, the loving child, the granddaughter who brought so much joy, and the young woman who had a place in the hearts of many.
Rachel will be deeply missed. Her family chooses to remember the love, laughter, childhood memories, and special moments that made her uniquely "Rachel". She is finally at rest and whole in Heaven with Jesus and her heavenly family of relatives who received her.
She was loved and is remembered by many who knew her. Rachel will always be a part of her family’s story.
