Richard Lee Hart

Richard graduated from Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas, with the Class of 1965. He was a hardworking man who spent his life providing for his family and taking pride in the work he did. Throughout his career, Richard held a variety of jobs, including positions with Bell Helicopter, General Dynamics, and several truck-driving jobs, before finding his longtime career with Jack Cooper Transport Company. He dedicated more than 20 years to Jack Cooper, working as a car hauler at the yard and rail facilities, before medically retiring. His strong work ethic and dedication were a meaningful part of the life he built for his family.

Richard married the love of his life, Sandra Jean Haralson Hart, in Las Vegas Nevada on January 25, 1986. Together, they built a life filled with family, memories, cars, animals, and adventures. During their marriage, they welcomed their son, Travis Lee Hart, and continued to build and make their home in Texas.

Richard and his family made their home in Benbrook, Texas, for the past 38 years, where they built a life and made many lasting memories in their forever home.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sandra Jean Hart; his son, Travis Lee Hart, and his wife, Abbie Hart; and his granddaughter, Charlotte Mae Hart. He is also survived his son Richard “Ricky” Lyons and wife Rae whom he shared with his first wife, Wanda Fisher Lyons Gregoire, daughter, Tracy Hart McIntyre, and her husband, Daniel; granddaughter, Karli McIntyre; and great-granddaughter, Presley Jones and also daughter Keely Hart and many more loving family members.

Richard had a lifelong love of horses and especially enjoyed working with them and riding them. He also had a passion for cars. He loved going to car shows, admiring both new and classic cars, and had a particular appreciation for hot rods. He always had a sweet ride that was special to him, and his beloved red 2003 Ford Lightning held a special place in his heart while listening to the late Toby Keith or Brooks and Dunn. Richard had an incredible knowledge of cars and could often tell you facts and details that others might not know.

Richard also enjoyed taking trips to Shreveport and WinStar for a little gambling and the excitement that came with it. He had a big heart for animals, especially dogs, and loved the many furry friends who were part of his life. He will now be reunited with all his beloved four-legged companions who went before him.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gladys Hart; and his siblings, Doris Purcell, David Hart, Melbia Kay Payne, and Bobbie Harvey.

Richard will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for horses and hot rods, his generous heart toward animals, and the many memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

The service for Richard will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Laurel Land's Chapel of Chimes with a visitation held prior beginning at 12:00 PM.
