Richard Louis Black was born on November 22, 1932, in Oahu, Hawaii to Lt. Colonel Allen B. Black and Beatrice A. Black.
Richard started school in a one room schoolhouse at Fort McDowell Angel Island, California. He then attended other schools in California, Washington, and Texas before graduating from Polytechnic High School, Fort Worth, Texas in 1951. He later attended Tarrant County College and University of Texas at Dallas. He was a member of Alpha Delta Phi (Honor Society) while majoring in Business Science. He held diplomas from several technical schools in Electronics, Surveying, and Civil Engineering.
Richard held certificates in Management and Economics from Texas A&M, Harvard, and Texas Wesleyan University. Richard was a Registered Land Professional Surveyor and a Certified Systems Professional. He spent most his career in Engineering, Computer Science, and Corporate Management. Richard retired in 1997 from his own consulting company.
Richard is survived by his wife of 70 years Joy Pope Black, son Patrick, daughter Debbie Durham and her husband Scott. He leaves three grandchildren: Casey Durham-Lara (husband Francisco), Laura Durham-Crimmins (husband Nick), and Mike Durham. He is also survived by three great grandchildren: Caitlyn, Gage, and Kendall.
He is preceded in death by his father Lt. Colonel Allen B. Black and his mother Beatrice A. Black.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 1pm to 2pm with a Funeral Service starting at 2pm at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth, TX. Burial to follow.
