Richard P Maenza died on August 31, 2023 at the age of 88. He lived a long and happy life, the secret to which was to never stop working and spend as much time with family and friends as possible. Richard was born in Brooklyn, NY. He was the youngest of five children.
Richard attended high school in Brooklyn, graduated with honors and gained student leadership experience in different school activities such as on the track team. Richard served honorably in the US Army for two years during the Korean War. His passion for aviation led him to American Airlines where he worked for 43 years.
Richard and his beloved wife Marie bought a home in Massapequa Park, NY, a great place to live and start their family. They were married for 50 years. Their three children, daughters- and son-in-law and five grandchildren had many happy times together in Massapequa Park and especially appreciated the lovely swimming pool and great family vacations. Marie died in 2010.
Richard enjoyed Italian food, BBQs and entertaining at his home. He invited his many cherished friends and family to join in the fun. Richard also had a passion for creating and woodworking and won the town’s award for best homemade holiday decorations.
Richard was a very active volunteer at AMVETS Post 88 in Massapequa where he was a two-term commander and life member.
For his last two and a half years of life, Richard lived in Texas with his son, daughter-in-law and three grandsons during which time he was lovingly cared for during his illness. He is missed by all and we are grateful for having the chance to know and love him.
A funeral mass will be held for Richard at Saint Martin of Tours RC Church in Amityville, NY on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 9:30 in the morning and followed by entombment at Pinelawn Memorial Park Mausoluem.
