Richard Wallace Opperman

On September 4, 2026, at the age of 95, Richard “Opp” Opperman peacefully passed from this life and was reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Nancy—the love of his life and his partner for more than six decades. Born on September 13, 1930.

Richard experienced profound loss early in life when his father died of tuberculosis when Richard was just seven years old. After his mother remarried and moved to South America, Richard and his brother, Don were placed at the Masonic Home.

After graduating from high school, Richard spent a year running track at Texas A&M before beginning his career with Texas Electric Company, now Oncor.

It was there that Richard became close friends with Nick Kerr, Nancy’s cousin. Knowing Richard had no family nearby, Nick invited him home for Thanksgiving. That simple act of kindness would forever change Richard’s life, because it was there that he met Nancy.

Richard and Nancy began dating and continued their relationship after he joined the United States Navy during the Korean War. While home on brief leave, Richard married the love of his life, beginning a devoted marriage that would span more than six decades. Together, they built a life and family grounded in love, faith, loyalty, and an unwavering devotion to one another.

Richard is preceded In Death by his wife Nancy and son Jeff.

Richard is survived by his sons - Scott Opperman and wife Paulina and Dick Opperman.

Grand Daughters - Lauren Johnson and husband Rob, Nancy Lynne Opperman, Ileana Opperman and Mariela Opperman and numerous great grandchildren.

The Family invites Relatives and Friends to a Celebration of Richard Opperman’s Life with a Private Viewing/Visitation on September 10 from 5 to 7 at Laurel Land with the Funeral on September 11 at 10am at Laurel Land with graveside services afterward.
