

Robert Edward Newsome was born on April 11, 1933 in Hallsville, Texas to the parentage of Jessie Newsome and Clarazell Crain. He spent his early childhood in Hallsville where he attended Athens Elementary. Robert was raised by his Uncle Boysie and Aunt Beulah, along with a special 1st cousin (W. K. Johnson) in Hallsville, Texas where he graduated from Galilee High School.
After high school, he briefly lived in Waco near his mother before moving to south Fort Worth and later made his home in Lake Como were he resided until his death. He met and married Audrey Mae Johnson and they remained blissfully wed until the Lord called her into rest, April 26, 2011. Together they raised two children, Mary Granvil and Fredrick Allen Newsome.
Robert, as a child attended church but it was not until he moved to Fort Worth that he became active in ministry, with his whole heart. He joined the Lake Como Church of Christ under Brother David C. Benford. He served as a song leader and was a member of the Golden Echoes; he later moved his membership to West Vickery Church of Christ under Brother Eddie Brigham, Sr. and later serving under Brother Freddie Brigham. Mr. Newsome found gainful employment at Bell Helicopter, after a short stint with Bell he went to work for Lockheed Martin (formerly General Dynamics) were he retired. After retirement Robert worked part time as a crossing guard at Como Montessori School and Burton Hill Elementary. He was well known in the community of Lake Como, he served with Code Blue Citizens on Patrol for 25 years and was the first COP Captain for the Como Citizens on Patrol, he was active in the Como Neighborhood Advisory Council, and Lake Como Planning Committee (July 4th Parade Day).
Preceding him in death are his parents, Jessie Newsome and Clarazell Crain-Jeffrey; sisters: Larcell Peters, Franzella Berry, Mary Roberts and Dorothy Jean Thomas-Coby; brothers, Billy Newsome and Rodell Newsome; and one grandson, Trenton Smith.
God said enough, and the battle ended as he quietly slept away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. He leaves with precious memories one daughter, Mary Ann Granvil; one son, Fredrick Newsome (Norma C.); two grandsons, Kelton Granvil and Timothy Smith; six great grandchildren; two sisters: Thelma Gooch, Oakland , CA and Ann P. Hutchins, Longview, TX and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
