Robert Burton Simmons

August 7, 1944 – January 25, 2026
Obituary of Robert Burton Simmons
IN THE CARE OF

Laurel Land – Rose Hill Memorial Park and Funeral Home

Robert Burton Simmons entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 25, 2026, in Bedford, Texas, at the age of 81.

Robert was born on August 7, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Charles and Ruth (Malicote) Simmons, Robert lived a full and purposeful life centered on his unwavering faith in God, his precious family, and a deep love for others. He was the best husband, father, PaPa, brother, and friend— selfless, sacrificial in his love, joyful, forgiving, kind, generous, serving, and hardworking.

Meticulous and detail-oriented in everything he set his mind to accomplish, Robert always provided well for his family and was devoted in every possible way. Professionally, he worked hard for many years as a purchasing agent/buyer for Bell Helicopter, where he excelled and supported his wife and three daughters with dedication. Robert was always the first to help those in need and was a true friend to all he met.

Robert’s passions included his love for classic cars—he adored 1957 Chevys (his favorite), along with other Chevys, cars, and trucks. He enjoyed hunting and had a special love for horses. Music brought him great joy: he loved old hymns, golden oldies from the 50s and 60s, patriotic songs, and country music. He had a beautiful singing and whistling voice that filled rooms with happiness. Favorites included Tina Turner’s “Rollin’ on the River,” Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

Above all, Robert loved Jesus with all his heart. He was a faithful believer, walking the walk and pointing others to the cross. He prayed earnestly for others and cherished Psalm 91, which he had memorized. Even in his final month, he sang his favorite song, “Jesus Loves Me,” with joy and conviction all the way to the end. In the assisted living dementia home, he was heard by the chaplain reciting the Lord’s Prayer out loud as the chaplain prayed for another resident of Catholic faith—a touching display of his inclusive spirit and enduring devotion to Scripture.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Mary Ellen Simmons (who passed on August 8, 2025); his parents, Charles and Ruth Simmons; his older brother, Eugene Simmons; and his firstborn baby daughter, Julie Simmons.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Kristi Menke, Kourtney Milne (husband David Milne), and Kami Simmons; his precious grandchildren: Lauren Mirza (husband Taha Mirza), Madeline Strickley (husband Jon Strickley), Mason Menke, Kathleen Milne (fiancé Grant Woodson), Isaac Milne, and Harrison Milne; his beloved great-grandchildren, Amiah Mirza and Haven Strickley, who brought him immense joy and happiness; his sister-in-law, Judy Simmons; his brother-in-law Phil Brooks; sister-in-law Shirley Minshew; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Robert’s life was a powerful testimony of faith, love, and kindness. He leaves behind a legacy like no other—one of devotion to God, selfless love for family, and genuine care for everyone he encountered. Though he will be deeply missed—especially following the recent loss of his wife, Mary—we take comfort in the promise of reunion: he is now embraced in the arms of the Father above, together with Mary, Julie, and all his loved ones who have gone before, whole and joyful forever.

Psalm 91:1,2: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty and I will say of the Lord, you are my refuge and my fortress my God in you will I trust.
