

Ruby Polk, age 89, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Ruby Faye Jarvis Polk was born February 23, 1932 in Golinda, Texas to the late Fred and Lillian Jarvis. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior when she joined Majors Chapel United Methodist Church. After moving to Waco, Texas, she joined Bracks Chapel United Methodist, where she was a faithful member, Usher, sang in the choir and participated in many other Christian duties. She later moved to Fort Worth where she became member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Brea Baptist Church and a founding member of Truvine Missionary Baptist Church.
Ruby matriculated through the Waco I.S.D. She attended A.J. Moore High School where she was a member of the band under the direction of Mr. Dan Rowe. She furthered her education at Tarrant County Community College, Chicago School of Nursing. Ruby graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing January 27, 1969.
In 1973, she began employment at the Fort Worth State School. At one point, Ruby was in charge of the entire state school campus under the direction of Mrs. Ruth Underwood as supervisor. She took care of all medical appointments and assisted five (5) physicians. Ruby had the distinction of being the first and only Mrs. Black Santa Claus. After 20 years of exemplary service, Ruby retired in September of 1993. Serving others was her ministry. She really enjoyed serving disabled and under privileged patients. Her love for serving others has been passed down to her granddaughters and great granddaughters as the
Ruby loved working with her hands. In her spare time she would sew garments and re-upholstered furniture. Also a lover of music, she would pick up notes and keys by ear and the play those same melodies by piano. An avid reader, she loved reading her bible. Philippians 4:13, Psalm 23 and 100 were her favourite verses. She was always the optimist. She always told her kids and grand children that they could do all things through Christ that strengthens them.
Ruby married the late Carl E. Long and from that union, birthed two daughters, Linda and Sandra. She later married the late Julius Polk. From that union, birthed Jarvis and Betty.
Ruby is preceded in death by her later husband, Julius Polk, one daughter, Linda Ayers; and one grandson, Jarvis Polk, II and one great great granddaughter, Avery Syas. Her parents, Fred and Lillian Jarvis; three (3) brothers, David Crocket Jarvis (D.C ), Albert Jarvis (Bubba) and Fred Jarvis, Jr. (F.L); six (6) sisters, Lee Ora Crane, Josephine Reed, Vera Hicks, Verna Early, Delphine Porter and Doris Washington;.
Affectionately known to her children and grand children as “Madear”, left to cherish her memories are two (2) daughters, Sandra Curlin (Greg) and Betty Harris, and one son, Jarvis Polk (Carla). Six (6) grandsons, Alvin Syas (Regina), Marvin Morgan, Darnell Whitney, Jr., Christopher Degrate, Zildjean Harris and Jarvis Polk, III; Four (4) grand daughters, Debra Syas Kimble (Alvin), Tiffany Degrate, Desiree Polk-Edwards (Tony) and Adrienne Duke. Ruby also leaves behind twenty-eight (28) great grand children, nine (9) great-great grand children. She is also survived by one brother, Charles Jarvis (Marilyn) of San Diego, Ca, two (2) sisters, Janice Hinton of Grand Prairie, Texas, Fannie Hayes of Morena Valley, Ca. and a loving and caring neighbor of 48 years, Mrs. Vergie.
