Ruth Ann Joyner was born July 7, 1930 in Okmulgee, OK to Arthur E. Stone and Ruth Adelaide Stone. Her young life was centered around family and church, moving many times to towns across OK, TX, NE, and CO. She started piano at 6 years old, sang in the choir with her mom and dad, and played the piano as a teenager.
After a year at Cottey College, she transferred to Colorado State's College of Education where she got a job in Denver at Broadway Methodist Church. There, she met her husband Bruce Joyner who was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base, "He was so handsome, and he could sing!!" After a whirlwind romance and wedding, she was off again following Bruce to assignments in GA, ME, MI, and CA while raising five children along the way. After retiring, they headed to PA then returned to CA. After Bruce's passing in 2005, she followed family in 2012 to Texas, and just like every other stop along the way she found a home and a church.
She was a 12 year member of North Fort Worth Baptist Church where she sang in the Shining Lights Choir, served on the church council, and played the piano for her Sunday school class.
She was an active member of P.E.O. for 75 years, a philanthropic women's organization dedicated to the education of young women with grants and loans. She served as an officer with every chapter she joined across the country.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bruce Dietrich Joyner; son Thomas Joyner; granddaughter Dawn Robinson; and brother Robert Stone.
She is survived by her children Stephen Joyner, Catherine McCartney, Mark Joyner, and Paula Burton; grandchildren Katie Smith, Grant Joyner, Jessica Debrik, Heather Hill, Natalie Joyner; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Ruth will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM at North Fort Worth Baptist, 5801 I-35W, Fort Worth, Texas 76131.
