

Sally Ann (née Viar)Thompson, age 87, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at her home in Mansfield, TX. Born October 15, 1936 in Lenox, TN, she was the youngest daughter of Walter and Edna (Eddie) Viar.
Always on the go, she left Lenox early in life to live with her sister in Mississippi. After finishing school, she lived with other girls at the YWCA in Memphis, then in Detroit with her brother, where she worked for Chrysler Defense. She was never one to sit still and eventually moved to Texas, where she met her husband, Wray. Together, they lived in several more states and even another country before moving back to Texas to raise their family.
Sally loved her family, traveling, competing in sports, and spending time with friends. She especially loved when she could combine all four. She was also a very successful golfer and won several tournaments at both Thorntree and Shady Valley country clubs. She loved cheering on her kids, grandkids, and great-grandson at hockey, swimming, basketball, theater, and more.
She is survived by her sons, Jon Thompson (Stephanie) and Doug Thompson (Annette); grandchildren: Michael, Katherine, Samantha, Brian, Claire, Meagan, and Lauren; great-grandson, Nathan; and her brother, Paul.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Wray Thompson; parents, Walter and Edna; brothers: Walter, States, Sam, Bobby Joe, Johnny; and her beloved sister, Lucy (Marjorie).
