Sarah Lee Bonner was born to Emmitt and Sarah Washington on May 26, 1935, in Lewisville Arkansas.
She grew up with eight siblings. She attended public school in Lewisville where she played basketball and sang in the school choir.
After graduating high school, she attended Valerie Beauty School in Marshall Texas. In the mid 50’s she moved to Forth Woth, Texas where she graduated from Beautician School.
Sarah met and married Earl Bonner. They celebrated 62 years of marriage and had four children. She was a devoted and giving mother who loved to cook for her family and had lots of fish fries. As a beautician by trade, she kept her family and neighbors’ hair well groomed.
Sarah was an Insurance Agent for Atlanta Life for many years. Her sewing and alteration skills led her to work at Justin Boot Company for over 10 years, sewing the design pattern on the boots.
In 1964, Sarah became a committed member of Community Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Homer Williams. At Community, she participated in several ministries. She served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Deaconess, hospitality committee, and the mission circle.
She was gifted woman of God. Sewing and Carpentry was her expertise. She could handle all types of tools. She had no problem fixing, measuring, piecing door and window facing, building, painting, etc. Her family wondered if carpentry or sewing was her favorite hobby. She could see a dress in a window or magazine, go and purchase the material, make a pattern, and sew the dress to have it on the next day for church.
