Sarah Bumgarner Carlton

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sarah Bumgarner Carlton, on Wednesday June 10, 2026 at the age of 87. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Born on August 28, 1938 in Sylva, NC Sarah was the child of Walter Alvin Bumgarner Sr. and Mary Lois Miles. Sarah grew up in Sylva graduating from Sylva High School in 1956 and then went on to attend Western Carolina College in Cullowhee, NC where she met the love of her life Jack Carlton. She will be remembered for her smile, kindness, generosity, and since of humor.

Sarah loved to sew and was a very talented seamstress with quilt making being one of her favorite past times. She also loved shopping, and enjoyed square dancing, working puzzles, and spending time outside.

Sarah is survived by daughter Janice Carlton Barnhart of Keller; son Douglas Wade Carlton of San Antonio; two grandsons Thomas Gene Barnhart of Atlanta GA and Timothy Rainer Barnhart of Poncha Springs CO; and twin brother Walter Alvin Bumgarner Jr. of Aiken SC.

Sarah was preceded in death by husband B. Jack Carlton, father Walter A Bumgarner Sr, mother Mary Lois (Rosalee) B. Hutton, and two sisters Mitzi Ruth Bumgarner and Barbara B. Gunter.

The family invites relatives and friends to a celebration of Sarah's life on July 10, 2026 at 10:00am, to be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home 7100 Crowley Rd. Fort Worth, TX 76134. The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Sarah's legacy will live on in all who knew her.
