A Glimpse of the Life Story of
Selena Townsend Hollie
Selena Townsend Hollie was born to the late LT Townsend and Ruth Guinn Cowan on January 17, 1941 in Pittsburg, TX. She attended grade school in Fort Worth ISD and graduated from the infamous I.M. Terrell High School.
Selena accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Wallace Hollie, Sr. They had the privilege and blessing of raising 4 beautiful children, Elvis, Wallace Jr., Corlis, and Cherie. Selena and Wallace created beautiful memories for the next 60 years. Selena attended Annie Street Christian Church and later became a long-time active member of Second Christian Church now known as New Vision Christian Church. She was over the culinary ministry for many years. Not only did she cook for the church, but she was “the cook” for many. Everyone knew that if you wanted the best enchiladas and chicken tetrazzini, Mama Hollie’s house was the house to go to. It was not only the food that drew you, but it was her love for children. Whether it was the neighbors, church, music groups that practiced at the house, or the kids’ friends, she loved them like her own. To her grandchildren, she was known as “Granny”.
Selena will be remembered for always calling and checking on others. Her phone book was filled with telephone numbers of family and friends. If she couldn’t get a hold of you by phone, she would make sure to connect with you on Facebook.
Her smile would light up a room while her looks would set you straight. Without a doubt, she has left a legacy for all to remember as her life exemplified a godly daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, sister, and friend.
Selena was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Guinn Cowan and stepfather, Luther Cowan, father, LT Townsend, and sister Margaret Townsend. She leaves to cherish precious memories, the love of her life, friend, and confident, her husband, Wallace. Children: Elvis, Wallace Jr. (Sonja), Corlis Carter (Broderick), and Cherie Pearl (Reno); Brother: Leonard Townsend of St. Louis, MO, Curtis Townsend and Marvin Townsend of Bakersfield, CA; Sister: Charlen Scott of Atlanta, GA; Grandchildren: Dione, Kenisha, Deidrich, Marvin, Brandon, Demario, Ri’shon, Braylon, and Naima, 12 great-grandchildren and a plethora of nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
